Design to Installation… The Natural Choice
Headwaters Floating Islands is the natural choice for all your BioHaven needs. Our expert team will help you assess your waterscape, water-quality and habitat needs, then provide timely, professional service every step of your project.
Design
Every project is unique, so every BioHaven should be too. From determining optimal size and shape to selecting the proper vegetation (pop up of the plant list), our team has years of experience in environmental engineering and water-quality management. But science is only part of the picture. We work with you to ensure that your floating island is beautiful.
For residential projects (500 ft2 or less) we provide plant suggestions and guidance at no charge. For larger installations, we provide fee-based services utilizing our in-house designers as well as strategic partners throughout the west. Because our goal is to help you achieve the outcome you desire, we work also closely with local contractors and nurseries.
Production
Our qualified experts assemble the recycled matrix mats in our exclusive production facilities in Montana. Every item is constructed according to exacting standards for durability, surface area and buoyancy.
Floating Treatment Wetlands come in a variety of shapes and sizes, while Living Walkways require specific engineering, so each one is custom built based on your design needs.
Your floating island will arrive ready to be planted and launched.
Installation*
For residential islands (smaller than 500 ft2), most owners do the entire installation themselves. The installation process can be completed in just a few hours. For larger projects, Headwaters will bring its team to take care of the preparation, launch and anchoring.
Maintenance
Although BioHavens are self-sustaining and very low maintenance, just like your lawn or garden, they may require occasional care. From time to time, removal of unwanted “volunteers” (Seeds that fall from nearby plants or are deposited by birds or wind) or addition of new or different plants may be desirable. Most residential owners prefer to take care of this maintenance themselves, but as your partner, Headwaters is happy to provide direction to local contractors as needed.
*Permits may be required for some installations.
